My Review for IGNITE is in!

***I received this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review***
IGNITE -- the debut novel by author Lily Paradis

After her father’s untimely demise in a mining accident and her mother’s abandonment, Lauren Lindsay is no stranger to loss. She’s used to living life for one person: herself. That is, until another family tragedy thrusts three children into her care and uproots her life in ways she could never imagine.

Lauren's first instinct is to run, until she meets their striking, mysterious neighbor Dean Powell. Their immediate chemistry and his connection with her late father just might be enough to keep her in town long enough to uncover pieces of her past that she never had answers to. Dean’s shady past and her reluctance to trust him could cost her the life she's always been searching for, but will she run back to her old life?

Or will she choose to stay and live the life her father always imagined for her?

You know those cable channels that show those love story movies- the kind that you love to curl up on the couch and watch- the kind that just make you feel good?

That was IGNITE for me.
This book was such a refreshing read. It was full of smiles and heart. While it was marked as a New's not full of the raunchy hookups. Instead it was full of just falling in love. Sweet and simple...
Well definitely not that simple, but what true love stories are?
After a chance meeting with an extremely good looking guy in a DMV, Lauren Lindsay gets a doozy of a 21st birthday gift. But instead of the customary club parties, gifts of alcohol, and games of drinking shots, she get's a phone call that could change everything. After a tragedy leaves Lauren as guardian of three kids (a moody teenager, a quiet preteen, and an adorable little one) she has to make some hard adjustments and fast decisions.
If that wasn't enough to complicate things, that chance encounter at the DMV turns out to be more destiny than chance, and Dean Powell (aka Mr. Sexy) shows up on the doorstep.
The attraction is there, but the journey is just beginning.
He has a less than stellar past... a past that he doesn't like to talk about, while others can't seem to stop reminding Lauren about his womanizing ways.
Lauren is still very much in mourning of her one true parent, now she has to help three kids in their own stages of grief, while trying to figure out the connection Dean has with her life now... and maybe the connection he also had with her past. But to do that she has to trust him...
And that is not easy. Lauren is a runner.
She stays consistent with that behavior for most of the book, which at times made me wanna take her by the shoulders and tell her to sit down and let that sexy man love her already.

Aside from Lauren and Dean, I loved the character growth of Callie and Jenny the most. I started the story with a certain perception of Jenny that was quickly changed; and then when we get some clarity of Dean's past, Jenny's personality makes so much more sense.
Callie was perfectly written as the combative younger sister, and it's when Lauren and she begin to bond that gave me some of the biggest smiles.

The story was action packed from beginning to end, sometimes it felt like A LOT was happening, but at the same time I enjoyed the fact that in it's basic sense it mimicked the path of two young people who have so much baggage of their own at such a young age. Despite their pasts, they are drawn together and fall in love. It had the bumps, the bruises... and in this story-the concussions and multiple hospital visits.... that life and love will give you.

I guess my biggest takeaway for this review would be that in this story the emphasis wasn't on the the physicality of the act of making love... it was about the actuality of being in love...
And that's why when the long awaited for kiss actually happens... it's EVERYTHING a first kiss should be.

"Because when Dean Powell's lips touched mine, they set fire to my entire being..."

I won't share all my little ooh and ahh moments to keep this all spoiler free but I like so many of the little things I picked up on throughout the book do have their ah-ha moment. And while I felt that I would have liked some more information to fill in some of the "gaps" as I realized the book was coming to a close, we got a small little message that Dean's side of the story would remedy that, and it's coming in the form of ARCLIGHT
I know I'm definitely looking forward to it!

(And it could just be me, but I would love some more Tucker. He has me intrigued!)

I gave this book FOUR Stars!

"Because...It's not about firsts. It's about lasts."
"Whoever that last man is, he better know how lucky he is."
