This Book Nerd Says:
My oh my...
This book was such a refreshing read. It was a heart warming story that was a definite palate cleanser for me. My attention was grabbed hold of in the prologue and the story held me captive until the last word of the epilogue. I know that it's labeled as an Adult Contemporary novel, but I was still happily surprised to genuinely see the actual maturity of characters throughout the story. They handle the drama that meets them with completely realistic rationality which had me breathing a huge sigh of relief.
Liz Atwater is a recently widowed mother of three boys. Her main concern is getting through each day with a brave face for her sons. Her heart is broken. She fears experiencing the same kind of pain that losing her husband created. But still she presses on, day by day...
The last thing she expects is for Reynolds Carter to show up at her front door and ask to change her life. Okay well he doesn't word it like that but the sentiment is there all the same.

Reynolds is burned out from doing the same old things. After his girlfriend cheats on him, he looks at everything in his life with a new perspective. He wants something he hasn't had, so he needs to try something he's never done.
These two people develop a natural connection and friendship and when things begin to intensify, they both begin that internal battle with how/if their worlds could mesh. The story of Liz and Reynolds feels so natural and so unrushed that it's so easy to lose yourself in the pages of a real life fairy tale.

"One day, you'll be ready for me. When you are, have no doubt that I'll be waiting for you..."

Full of tender moments and endearing characters, Ward does a spectacular job at creating a unique story where you don't just fall in love with one person, you fall in love with three. By the end it was very easy to empathize with Liz. You understand exactly why she fell for Jack and simultaneously you fall for Reynolds right alongside her.
I've said it before, I love a guy who loves being a father... but there's something beautiful and rare when a man steps up and unconditionally loves children who aren't biologically his. This is a very big part of what makes Reynolds definite book boyfriend material. More than that Liz is one of those characters that I felt became a character that I'd want to be friends with.
And as you know, that my booknerdian peeeps, is a mark of a great read for me.

"Not every love story has a happy ending, but the great ones, no matter how they end, change your life. Love is the only thing more powerful in this world than death. Love transcends. And in te end, all any of us can hope for, is a love that is past heaven."

I'm giving Past Heaven 4 Solid Stars!!

I hope you check this one out and enjoy it as much as I did!

TEASERS

“Me, too. I’m … Thomas, by the way,” he said softly. He rolled over and relaxed beside me, his head propped by his hand. Instead of getting dressed, he looked as if he were ready for conversation.
I pressed my lips together. “I’m,” Do it. Do it or you’ll just be kicking yourself later. “…emotionally unavailable.”

***
“I live in Midtown,” I said, wondering if I would see my neighbor again.
She grinned. “Me, too. A lot of us do. We can drown your sorrows together.”

“I don’t have sorrows. Just memories. They’ll go away on their own.”
***
He narrowed his eyes. “Are you insubordinate, Agent Lindy? Is that why you were sent here, to be under my command?”
“You requested me, remember?”
“I didn’t request you. I requested the best language expert we had.”
“That would be me, sir.”

ARC REVIEW... GARRETT by Sawyer Bennett

Carolina Cold Fury star Garrett Samuelson never wants to miss out on a single minute of fun. Whether he’s playing hockey, hanging out with friends, or walking the red carpet with a new date on his arm, he lives every day to the fullest. When he meets Olivia Case, he sees someone who’s exactly his type—confident, sexy, smart . . . his next fling. But the more he pursues her, the more Garrett shares a side of himself that other women don’t normally get to see.

Olivia has been keeping a secret. While Garrett lives for the next thrill, Olivia’s not sure she’ll live to see the next day. She’s undergoing treatment for some serious medical issues, and she doesn’t have time for a relationship with no guarantees—especially one with a hot-as-sin womanizer who won’t take no for an answer. But as she gets to know the real Garrett, Olivia can’t help falling for him . . . hard. To reveal the truth would mean risking everything—but you can’t score without taking the tough shots.

This Book Nerd Says:

This book.... AHHHHHHH!
I scream that in the fondest way by the way.
While this wasn't my first book by Sawyer Bennett, it was my first time reading a book from the COLD FURY HOCKEY Series. Once again Bennett didn't disappoint.
GARRETT is without a doubt a true love story. Garrett Samuelson is hockey player with a reputation for the quick turnaround of ladies in his life. He loves the freedom that comes along with being unattached, actively avoiding 'repeats' with these women. He's on a new team and loving the friendship he has with his teammate Alex Crossman (Alex COLD FURY #1 Goodreads). His life though revolves around his true love, Hockey.
When he meets Olivia all he knows is he wants to know more about her. He wants to take her out on a date because everything about her is so much more than what he's used to. Olivia has a secret...
She's certain her time with Garrett will be fleeting since he's not exactly known for his lasting relationships. But when he begins to feel all his feelings for her begin to override his aversion to an actual commitment to a woman, her secret becomes even more of a burden.

I don't want to reveal anymore because in all honesty it only takes a few pages of reading before Olivia's secret comes to light for us as the reader. The rest is a sweet and utterly endearing love story about two people who weren't exactly looking for love but they found that they needed it all along.

I think we established that I am an emotional reader so I'll let you know that I did cry during this story. BUT the tears were completely happy tears. Seriously I was smiling like a complete crazy person reading the epilogue. I really really (really) enjoyed this book.  I totally couldn't put it down once I started it. I think a lot of women can relate to having that wanting to be the one to tame the bad boy fantasy lol, but what makes this even better is that Olivia doesn't have to "tame" Garrett. Garrett does us one better and tames himself when he realizes what he wants is to be with Olivia, that sharing his life with her would be far more exciting than the life he had been living without her.
What was truly a bonus was that I loved each and every single secondary character as well.
Now I can't wait to read the rest of the series!!

4 Stars for GARRETT!

It's coming out next month so make sure you add this one to your TBR lists and pre-order if you can!

Double REVIEW... Wicked Weekend & Reckless Nights by Karen Erickson

*I received a copy of both books in exchange for an honest review*

What happens in Vegas…could be a fantasy come true.

Between nursing school and starting their careers, Reagan, Andrea and Natalie have had no time for dating. After saving up for a special vacation, they’re on their way to Vegas for a long-awaited weekend of fun, sun, gambling and partying.

When their luggage goes missing, an impromptu shopping trip leads them to James, who makes them an unusual offer—to be part of the female scenery at his boss’s upcoming party. Not just any scenery, but women who are pretty in a real way, not the nipped, tucked and dyed Hollywood version.

Accept a “private party” invitation from a complete stranger? These ladies weren't born yesterday. Yet before “no thanks” crosses their lips, Reagan discovers who James’s boss really is: Declan Carter, an actor she’s crushed on for, well, forever. Now she’s determined to be the eye candy who catches Declan’s eye. No matter what it takes…

Warning: Epic shopping trip results in meeting hot men. It is recommended that all credit cards be placed out of reach before reading.

Sometimes dream crushes do come true.

Vegas Nights, Book 1

Reagan can’t believe her luck—and not in a good way. One minute she’s hanging out with her friends at an exclusive party in Las Vegas. The next, she’s attracted the attention of a famous actor. Not just any actor. Declan Carter, the man on which she used to—okay, might still—have a fangirl crush. Whose blue eyes leave her embarrassingly tongue tied.

All Declan wants is to meet a nice, normal woman who won’t use him as a stepping stone to fame. Something about Reagan tells him she could be that rare woman, and he follows his instinct to invite her back to his suite—where they proceed to have wild monkey sex. All. Night. Long.

What was supposed to be one night of no-regrets sex stretches out into a blissful weekend of two people who can’t get enough of each other. But when the glamour of Sin City wears off, they’re standing on the edge of a once-in-a-lifetime chance to turn a weekend fling into something lasting. Will they take the jump?

This Book Nerd Says:
I read both of these books back to back. They were quick reads full of fun and steamy heat.
WICKED WEEKEND is somewhat of a prologue to the series. In it we get an introduction to a trio of best friends. Reagan, Andrea, and Natalie have just arrived in Vegas after a hellish trip to get there. All the girls are looking for a weekend of escape from the realities of working long hours as nurses. Determined not to waste a minute of their time, including any wasted seconds waiting for their lost luggage to turn up, they decide to go shopping...
It's that shopping trip that changes anything the girls would have planned to do as they meet with the inviting (slightly pushy but still endearing) and mysterious James. James insists they come along to a party hosted by none other than Declan Carter. Declan is an actor that had long ago become the crush of Reagan. She may not view herself as 'the hot friend' but she's determined to show up to that party and maybe catch Declan's eye even if it means doing something so uncharacteristically RECKLESS...
...segue into RECKLESS NIGHTS...
Declan is burnt out on the typical types of girls he usually is bombarded with at these types of parties...especially now that he's determined to salvage his career by focusing on taking his next role seriously. But when Reagan shows up she has his complete and undivided attention. What was supposed to be one night between them turns into a weekend neither of them want to see end. Declan seems to have found the one woman who doesn't want anything from him except HIM.

These stories were fun reads. While WILD WEEKEND gives us a few personality snapshots of each of the girls, RECKLESS NIGHTS was all about Reagan and Declan. Granted I may be biased because I've only read about these two in detail, I'm kinda thinking they're my favorite. Sure there was insta-love (you can't chalk it up to any other type) but IT WAS FUN. Sometimes you just need a read that makes you fan yourself a bit and say wow that was a fun mini-escape. I loved that Declan loved Reagan's body and seemed to even take her own self-conscious worries and toss them to the wind.
It was a fast read and wrapped a little quickly so it did leave me wanting to know more about them and how things would progress. I'm not sure if we'd see more in a future book in the series but I would love some follow up on the couple!

I am giving Wicked Weekend 3 Stars and Reckless Nights 3.5 Stars

HAPPY READING!!

EXCERPT

“Reagan,” Declan called, drawing her attention. She turned to her right to find him sitting on an overstuffed loveseat made out of wicker, the deep red cushions plump and comfortable-looking. He waved her over and she headed toward him, her steps careful, her knees wobbling when she saw the heart-stopping smile on his face as she approached.

“I could watch you do that all night,” he murmured as he leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees so he could dangle in his arms between his legs, his hands clasped together.

“Watch me do what?” she asked, perplexed. She stopped by a glass-topped table where

the two waters Declan ordered sat. But she wasn’t thirsty. She could hardly move, too entranced by the way he stared up at her.

“Walk. You look...incredible in that dress,” he said, letting his gaze skim the entire length of her. “Join me.”

The loveseat wasn’t very big and he was nearly sitting in the middle, so she settled down next to him, their thighs pressed together, her bare leg rubbing against the slightly coarse material of his jeans. She smiled at him as he sat up straight, his shoulder brushing against hers, and she looked away, exhaling discreetly for fear he might notice.

He flat out overwhelmed her. She could smell him, spicy and warm with a hint of soap. His body was hot—she could feel the heat radiating off of him and pulsating through her.

Or maybe that was just her, so crazily aroused for this man she didn’t really even know that she reacted like a woman with out of control hormones. He definitely sent everything within her zinging with just a look, just by sitting next to her.

“It’s a beautiful view,” she said when she couldn’t seem to take him staring at her anymore. She turned to look out at the city lights once more, the breeze blowing through her hair, lifting it from her shoulders and her warm neck.

“I agree,” he said, his voice closer than she realized, and she glanced over her shoulder, his face directly in hers, his gaze locked on her. “Gorgeous.”

She had the distinct feeling he wasn’t talking about the view of Las Vegas. More like he was talking about...her?

No way.

This Book Nerd Says:
So I read this book after I read the second in this Hunter Hill University Series. While it's stated that you can read the series in any order (and I agree) I must mention that reading about Cali and Griffin in Mending Michael (book 2) before reading this story gives you a teeny tiny spoiler in knowing that at the end they get their happily-ever-after-at-least-for-now. With that disclaimer out of the way let's get into my review...
This story did intrigue from the very beginning, it's a flashback, a memory that sticks with the characters until we meet them in the present. Though I immediately began to predict what was happening, I felt that there was going to be a twist in there so it kept me wanting to turn the page.
My favorite part of this book was Griffin. That was surprising because I thought I was going to enjoy Cali's character the most. I was wrong. Griffin stole my heart from the beginning and he kept on finding moments to make me say 'awwww'. This could have fallen into those rich boy meets poor girl read it before typecast categories, BUT instead it stood out as something more for me. It's Griffin that was the stand out factor. He has money but completely avoids being the entitled rich kid. Instead he's drawn to Cali and realizes that all he wants to do is help her because money without love meant nothing.
This though leads to my main issue with the story.
Cali's insecurities with her financial status are definitely understandable but it's her pride that begins to drive me mad. She's a bit oversensitive in a few situations (going through a lot of personal turmoil but still...) and takes some of the genuine heartfelt gestures and actions from Griffin as negatives effectively trying to push him away. I honestly didn't completely want to shake her until her pride began to make Griffin begin to change himself when I felt like he didn't need to because he was a GOOD person.
I must also say there was a bit of an insta-love story but I liked that it was also addressed by characters.
Overall I really did enjoy the read and the twist was more than I was expecting so that was a bonus. I'm kept going back and forth when it came to a star rating.
For the story line I would give it 3.5 stars
For the characters I would probably give it 4 stars

Cover Re-Reveal WHERE WE BELONG by K.L. Grayson

Regret . . . she's a snarky little bitch.

I’ve tried several times to regret the events that took place on June 5, 2008, but for the life of me, I can’t. I'd never regret the pain, the suffering, or the heartache because it ultimately led me to the place I am now. And I can’t regret the place I am now. What I still can't figure out is this: how is it possible that the single worst day of my life inadvertently became the very best day?

Five years ago my life was irrevocably changed.

Seventeen minutes was all it took—
to lose my best friend…
to lose the love of my life…

Seventeen minutes was all it took for the seeds of hope—the seeds of my future—to be planted in the worst possible way.

My name is Harley Thompson, and this is my story.

Excerpt:
"Okay. First of all," she says, waving her fork in the air, "don't ever say that again! Balls are not strong. Growing a set of balls will not make you stronger. Now, a vagina, that's strong. Take your vagina, for example. You pushed out a ten-pound baby without a lick of medicine. That," she shoves a bite in her mouth, "is a strong vagina. You’ve got like the superhero of all vaginas!" I'm at a loss for words. Quinn is known for her random rants, but this is way off-the-wall. I keep staring. What the hell do I say to that? She's right. My vagina freakin' rocks!
A deep cough sounds behind me and I turn around to see a woman about my age, slapping her husband on the back. Said husband is looking at Quinn and I with a horrified expression and an extremely red face. I can't help but smile when his obviously pregnant wife slides out of the booth, tosses some money on the table, and high-fives me on her way out of the diner.

Her entire life rests in the palms of six dirty little hands, and when the day is over and those pint-sized cherubs have been washed and tucked into bed, you can find her typing away furiously on her computer. She has a love for alpha-males, reading, tattoos, sunglasses, and happy endings … and not particularly in that order.
