This Book Nerd Says:
My oh my...
This book was such a refreshing read. It was a heart warming story that was a definite palate cleanser for me. My attention was grabbed hold of in the prologue and the story held me captive until the last word of the epilogue. I know that it's labeled as an Adult Contemporary novel, but I was still happily surprised to genuinely see the actual maturity of characters throughout the story. They handle the drama that meets them with completely realistic rationality which had me breathing a huge sigh of relief.
Liz Atwater is a recently widowed mother of three boys. Her main concern is getting through each day with a brave face for her sons. Her heart is broken. She fears experiencing the same kind of pain that losing her husband created. But still she presses on, day by day...
The last thing she expects is for Reynolds Carter to show up at her front door and ask to change her life. Okay well he doesn't word it like that but the sentiment is there all the same.

Reynolds is burned out from doing the same old things. After his girlfriend cheats on him, he looks at everything in his life with a new perspective. He wants something he hasn't had, so he needs to try something he's never done.
These two people develop a natural connection and friendship and when things begin to intensify, they both begin that internal battle with how/if their worlds could mesh. The story of Liz and Reynolds feels so natural and so unrushed that it's so easy to lose yourself in the pages of a real life fairy tale.

"One day, you'll be ready for me. When you are, have no doubt that I'll be waiting for you..."

Full of tender moments and endearing characters, Ward does a spectacular job at creating a unique story where you don't just fall in love with one person, you fall in love with three. By the end it was very easy to empathize with Liz. You understand exactly why she fell for Jack and simultaneously you fall for Reynolds right alongside her.
I've said it before, I love a guy who loves being a father... but there's something beautiful and rare when a man steps up and unconditionally loves children who aren't biologically his. This is a very big part of what makes Reynolds definite book boyfriend material. More than that Liz is one of those characters that I felt became a character that I'd want to be friends with.
And as you know, that my booknerdian peeeps, is a mark of a great read for me.

"Not every love story has a happy ending, but the great ones, no matter how they end, change your life. Love is the only thing more powerful in this world than death. Love transcends. And in te end, all any of us can hope for, is a love that is past heaven."

I'm giving Past Heaven 4 Solid Stars!!

I hope you check this one out and enjoy it as much as I did!
