BLOG TOUR... The Pledge by Laura Ward and Christine Manzari

We're celebrating the release of THE PLEDGE by Laura Ward & Christine Manzari!

Title: The Pledge
Author: Laura Ward & Christine Manzari
Age: NA
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Cover Designed by: Okay Creations, Sarah Hansen
Release date: July 27, 2015
Taren needs a do-over. She’s decided the best way to put the high school bullies behind her is to pledge a Taylor-Swift-lip-syncing, beer-guzzling, sorority. Sisterhood helps Taren find the acceptance she’s always craved, but not the love she needs.

Alec wants freedom. To escape his father’s iron fist and unrealistic expectations, he pledges a campus acrobatics club where he finds that drugs and alcohol aren't the only ways to get high. His addiction to danger helps him gain his independence, but it comes at a heavy price.

When the two cross paths, Alec fears his undeniable attraction to the party girl just might threaten everything he's worked so hard to earn. Taren hasn’t forgotten that Alec humiliated her back in high school, but she also can't deny the chemistry they share.

Alec and Taren have nothing in common, but fate is bound and determined to bring them together. They know falling in love is a risk, and yet it’s too hard to ignore. When their worlds clash and they both end up suffering, will they fight to stay together? Or are some pledges too hard to keep?

This Book Nerd Says:

"Fresh Start. New beginning. No one knows me here..."

This book was definitely a sweet change of pace from the usual NA athlete stories that usually come along. It took me about seventy five pages to really hit my stride with this read but once I got to that point I didn't put it down until I was done with it.
Both needing to reinvent themselves from the people they had been before college, both Alec and Taren have a unique history.

Alec just wants to make his own choices and live his own life.
This desire also means that he has to defy some heavy expectations from his father.
His character was probably my second favorite thing about this book. Alec finding his backbone and true passion was a refreshing pleasure. I enjoyed how committed he was to his new lifestyle and how determined he was to protect it.  It was easy to sympathize with his feelings throughout the course of the story and my support of him never waned even as bumps in the relationship began to roll through.

My favorite thing about this story would be the integration of the story of the the red string of fate. If you immediately think of the cover well then... BINGO! I thought this was a fabulously unique and sweet aha thread within the story of Alec and Taren.
While others may not have understood their connection that red string of fate continued to intertwine their lives in all the unexpected places. This made THE PLEDGE stand out.

I really enjoyed it and found it to be a pretty quick and easy read. The only reason that I'm holding back a slightly higher rating would be because I found Taren to be slightly less mature/rational in most of her decisions. I know, I know it's college and they're young characters... Maybe it was because of Alec's maturity but I expected more out of her. That being said when she jumps that gap and makes those better choices... I jumped the gap into liking her character even more.
I am giving THE PLEDGE 3.5 Stars.
I am looking forward to seeing what the rest of the series brings. If it's more characters like Alec... then I'm sure none of us will be disappointed.

Spotlight REVIEW... Pitching To Win by Carrie Aarons

What do you do when the town golden boy, who never noticed you in high school, decides to make a play for your heart?

For Minka Braxton, high school has been anything but easy. After a humiliating scandal sophomore year, she's avoided the social scene and anything having to do with boys, especially of the popular variety. But with senior year approaching, Minka decides it's time to take life back into her own hands. That is, until Owen Axel, the type of guy she's always avoided, decides he wants her in his hands.

Owen Axel is the definition of popular. Good looks, all-star worthy pitching arm and a former pro-athlete father make him Mitchum's town God. Returning from college for the summer, his plan is simple. Beach, booze, and beautiful girls. But one look at Minka Braxton and he knows what he wants. He just doesn't count on her not wanting him.

As the summer unfolds, both must decide how much to reveal, how deep they should fall, and what might happen if they strike out.

This Book Nerd Says:

I wanted to give this recent read a bit of a spotlight review. I think it's fairly common knowledge that I love a good sports story, so I was definitely curious about this one.

Minka knows all too well how it feels to be the ongoing joke among the popular crowd. After being the butt on a humiliating prank she avoids any time in the social limelight preferring to stay out the outskirts of all the activity. Her plan works relatively well until baseball star Owen Axel sets his eyes on her.

I found this read to be pretty refreshing.
I was wary of the drama level when I realized the one of the MCs was still a high school student, but Minka surprised me. I kept expecting out of proportion blowups but I was very pleased to see that the majority of the story felt extremely realistic. The progression of Minka and Owen's relationship was fitting to their situations in life and I enjoyed that it flowed pretty swiftly.

It also touched on some topics that I enjoyed watching develop. These include Minka's self confidence, and both her and Owen's strained relationships with their respective parents. It's these relationships that made the book stand out for me.

I was torn between 3.5 stars and 4 stars for most of the the book. I settled on 3.5 stars and here's why.
While most of the book is noticeably absent of the unneeded angst and conflict, there was some drama. It's not the drama that I minded. It might have been a little too perfect without any... BUT the drama that did come didn't sit well with me. I think it's just because I didn't find the reactions to the "revelation" fitting with the character. Maybe I just had a higher expectation from them at the point that it all went down - which could also be a compliment to how much I enjoyed the maturity (of Owen especially).
That being said, I still really enjoyed it and would look forward to reading a continuation of the story. I felt like the author gave us a really good set up for future stories to come that would focus on Minka and Owen's friends. I definitely would follow this one to see what comes.

I hope you give it a read, especially if you're in the mood for a sweet young love story with a swoon worthy baseball player!

REVIEW... HIM by Sarina Bowen and Elle Kennedy

They don’t play for the same team. Or do they?

Jamie Canning has never been able to figure out how he lost his closest friend. Four years ago, his tattooed, wise-cracking, rule-breaking roommate cut him off without an explanation. So what if things got a little weird on the last night of hockey camp the summer they were eighteen? It was just a little drunken foolishness. Nobody died.

Ryan Wesley’s biggest regret is coaxing his very straight friend into a bet that pushed the boundaries of their relationship. Now, with their college teams set to face off at the national championship, he’ll finally get a chance to apologize. But all it takes is one look at his longtime crush, and the ache is stronger than ever.

Jamie has waited a long time for answers, but walks away with only more questions—can one night of sex ruin a friendship? If not, how about six more weeks of it? When Wesley turns up to coach alongside Jamie for one more hot summer at camp, Jamie has a few things to discover about his old friend...and a big one to learn about himself.

Warning: contains sexual situations, skinnydipping, shenanigans in an SUV and proof that coming out to your family on social media is a dicey proposition.

This Book Nerd Says:
This review will be spoiler free so no worries!
When I first found out that Sarina Bowen and Elle Kennedy were teaming up to write a book I probably squealed out loud. I am a huge fan of everything Sarina writes and Elle's Off Campus series is one of my favorites. You see I had very high expectations for this book.
Sarina's THE UNDERSTATEMENT OF THE YEAR was my first (and only) m/m romance read before reading HIM. But I was instantly reminded of that same magic.
Very quickly the story pulled me in and the story was so engrossing and addicting that I looked up and realized I had read the last page.
The flow of the book was seamless and I was impressed that even having the knowledge that two people wrote the book, there was such a fluidity that I never felt the desire to even try and decipher who wrote what part.
I loved how distinct the character's were. Jamie and Ryan stand apart in all the best ways. I loved Ryan's confidence at the same time I LOVED that his vulnerabilities seemed tied in with his relationship with Jamie. It made him so much more human and made the cocky (yes I know I said it) banter that much more adorable.
Jamie on the other hand was the biggest surprise. His conflicts and emotions weren't exactly what I expected but they were probably my very favorite part of his character. Well on second thought, Jamie's family is in strong competition for that title of favorite.
Individually Ryan and Jamie were great. But together... Perfection.

And of course... I ended up getting all teary at the end but with these authors I'm not very surprised.
HIM definitely didn't disappoint.

I gave it 4.5 Stars!

*Unexpected is a standalone new adult novel*

*ARC received from the author in exchange for an honest review*

This Book Nerd Says:

"Not every story ends the same. Some of them have a twist. Some things in life are unexpected..."

I was pleased to give this one a read when the author asked me to. I found this to be a quick kinda sorta friends to lovers story. I have to add the kinda sorta because while I genuinely appreciated the fact that both Ryan and Alina realized that they should be friends before attempting any relationship, the progression of their friendship was laced with a physical attraction, flirtation, and much sexual tension.
My favorite part of this story was without a doubt Ryan. I'm pretty sure ever girl would love to have a friend like him. His character was refreshingly positive and mature, it balanced out everything else that I wasn't quite sure about. He definitely has some book boyfriend material qualities going on.
Sometimes on the weekends I love to find one of those made for tv sugar coated love stories on and I indulge in the cheesiness of it all. I say that because that's the same pleasure I got in reading UNEXPECTED.
Now I mentioned that this was a quick read and I meant it. Everything seems to happen really fast (probably because the story is a shorter read) and I felt like I was left wanting a bit more at the end. BUT I will say that there wasn't any unnecessary drama, and it was a HAE with no cliffhanger.
So if it sounds like what you're in the mood for make sure you add it to your TBR and click it out later!

I am giving UNEXPECTED 3 Stars!

BLOG TOUR REVIEW... Wild Nights by Karen Erickson

Join us in celebrating the final book in the Vegas Nights series with the release of WILD NIGHTS by Karen Erickson!

WILD NIGHTS (Vegas Nights Series #3) by Karen Erickson
Erotic Romance
A guy of her own? She’s not holding her breath—until he steals it away.
Vegas Nights, Book 3

Natalie’s girls-only weekend in Vegas is shot to hell, thanks to her friends ditching her for very sexy, very famous guys. Not that she blames them. She knows what lonely feels like. A nurse’s long hours leave little time for a social life.

Then she collides with and spills her drink all over a very fine, very exposed male chest. A chest belonging to Noah Wilde, lead singer for the infamous Wilde & Wicked rock band. Thankfully, he’s merely amused as she tries to take care of the mess she made.

Noah sure would like to make a mess of the gorgeous, petite lady with luminous blue eyes. There’s no resisting the urge to tempt her along for an adventurous night of gambling, drinking, eating, and sin.

But during the harsh light of day, Noah has a change of heart. Not about the fact he likes Natalie—a lot. He’s not sure he wants to drag this sweet lady through his sordid life. Even though sparing her could cost them both a chance at forever.

Warning: Contains a nurse who thought she knew all there was to know about anatomy, and a rock god who’s about to show her a few spots she missed. To say they both hit the jackpot would be an understatement.

*I received a copy of this book in exchange for participation in the blog tour and an honest review*
This Book Nerd Says:
This has been such a fun steamy series to indulge in. Picking up right where the other books have left us, Wild Nights gives us the story of Natalie and how she falls into the path of notorious rocker bad boy Noah Wilde.
This story is another quick read so this review will be somewhat shorter and as always spoiler free. I've said in my reviews of the preceding books that I didn't think that any of the other couples were going to top Regan and Declan for me. Now I still maintain that Regan and Declan are my fave from this series but Natalie and Noah come pretty dang close.
I really enjoyed Natalie's quirkiness. It gave the story a fun lighthearted layer to balance out the hot and steamy scenes. But she wasn't just all funny quirks... there was a real sense of emotion that we get to see about Natalie right from the beginning.

 Now lets talk about Noah...
Gorgeous Rocker. Check.
Reformed Bad Boy with a filthy mouth. Check.
Swoon-inducing Romantic Gestures.  Check.

A Wild Night with Noah Wilde. CHECK PLEASE!

I definitely thought this was a fitting conclusion to such a great summer fun series. It's a definite fun escape so if you haven't checked out the other books, jump on that.

What happens in Vegas…could be a fantasy come true.
Vegas Nights, Book 0.5

Between nursing school and starting their careers, Reagan, Andrea, and Natalie have had no time for dating. After saving up for a special vacation, they’re on their way to Vegas for a long-awaited weekend of fun, sun, gambling and partying.

When their luggage goes missing, an impromptu shopping trip leads them to James, who makes them an unusual offer—to be part of the female scenery at his boss’s upcoming party. Not just any scenery, but women who are pretty in a real way, not the nipped, tucked and dyed Hollywood version.

Accept a “private party” invitation from a complete stranger? These ladies weren’t born yesterday. Yet before “no thanks” crosses their lips, Reagan discovers who James’s boss really is: Declan Carter, an actor she’s crushed on for, well, forever. Now she’s determined to be the eye candy who catches Declan’s eye. No matter what it takes…

RECKLESS NIGHTS (Vegas Nights Series #1) by Karen Erickson
Erotic Romance
Amazon | BN | Kobo | iTunes

Sometimes dream crushes do come true.
Vegas Nights, Book 1

Reagan can’t believe her luck—and not in a good way. One minute she’s hanging out with her friends at an exclusive party in Las Vegas. The next, she’s attracted the attention of a famous actor. Not just any actor. Declan Carter, the man on which she used to—okay, might still—have a fangirl crush. Whose blue eyes leave her embarrassingly tongue tied.

All Declan wants is to meet a nice, normal woman who won’t use him as a stepping stone to fame. Something about Reagan tells him she could be that rare woman, and he follows his instinct to invite her back to his suite—where they proceed to have wild monkey sex. All. Night. Long.

What was supposed to be one night of no-regrets sex stretches out into a blissful weekend of two people who can’t get enough of each other. But when the glamour of Sin City wears off, they’re standing on the edge of a once-in-a-lifetime chance to turn a weekend fling into something lasting. Will they take the jump?

ENDLESS NIGHTS (Vegas Nights Series #2) by Karen Erickson
Erotic Romance
Amazon | BN | Kobo | iTunes
The sex is crazy good. Is it crazier to want something more?
Vegas Nights, Book 2

Andrea and her two best friends have shed their nurses scrubs for a long-awaited weekend in Las Vegas, and nothing—flight delays, lost luggage, or the slightly weird guy with the sketchy invite to an exclusive bash—is going to stop their fun.

Within minutes of arriving at the opulent party, she’s deep in conversation with gorgeous, funny Luke Nelson, wide receiver for the Seattle Seahawks. For some crazy reason, he can’t seem to keep his eyes—or hands—off her.

Luke isn’t looking for a hookup, he just wants to relax…until he gets one look at the classy brunette in the barely-there dress. One minute they’re talking, the next they’re all over each other in a dark corner. It’s like he’s an addict and she’s the fix he’s been searching for all his life.

One night of hot sex isn’t nearly enough. But after a weekend spent never more than a few inches apart, the time is quickly approaching when they’ll have to make a long-distance relationship work—or break it off.

REVIEW... Just A Little Kiss by Renita Pizzitola

In the sizzling new novel of Renita Pizzitola’s Crush series, Felicity knows that “Summer Boys” are only good for one thing. But what if hooking up with the right guy could lead to a fresh start?

Like most of the residents of her dead-end beach town, Felicity Daniels doesn’t know what she wants from her future. Instead of college, she’s waiting tables at the local grille where she’s more likely to run into the guy who was the love of her life—until one decision changed everything. Now as this year’s tourist season kicks in to high gear, Felicity realizes that whatever she wants isn't going to be found here.

Mason Hayes is the quintessential Summer Boy: hot, impulsive, and born without strings attached. While in town helping with the family fishing charter, he plans to have a little fun—and hopefully get over a certain girl. He’s never had a long-term relationship, but when he meets Felicity, he wonders if he’s found the girl who could change that.

With her heart still in repair, Felicity’s happy to have a distraction like Mason, but her best friend thinks he could also be her ticket out of this town. What’s the harm in using him to escape more than just her boredom? After all, he is just a Summer Boy, and they never stick around. But after one kiss, Felicity wonders if only one summer with Mason will ever really be enough.

Just A Little Kiss GOODREADS

*ARC received from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review*

This Book Nerd Says:

I was very pleased to get a chance to read and review this book as an ARC especially since I had read and loved the first two books in the series (Just A Little Crush and Just A Little Flirt). Now in all honesty after the first two books I wasn't so sure that I liked Mason. This book definitely changed my opinion though. I can say without pause or hesitation that Mason is my favorite part of this book from start to finish. His character brought the humor, sincerity,  romantic gestures that I didn't even see coming, and maybe cause I wasn't comparing him to Ryder for the first time- he brought the sexy.
I went from not sure if I liked him to kinda sorta definitely loving him.

There was only one thing that kept this from being a four star book for me. Unfortunately it was kind of a biggie... Felicity.
Getting to know her situation made me feel for her. She's recovering from a broken heart, which is hard to do in a town full of people who all seem to know her business or make it their business to "protect" her. She knows she doesn't want to stay there forever, she knows she wants more... but that's where her certainty kind of ends. As much as I felt for her situation, her character did a little too much wishy-washy wobbling for my liking.

Maybe that made me appreciate Mason's character more, his patience for her seemed rather endless and even when it seemed like he'd reach his limits... I didn't blame him at all.

Beyond Mason, I really enjoyed the background story between the secondary characters. At the end I wished we'd gotten something (a sign of resolution, closure...hope for progression) more about them. Isla seems to be the friend we all love to have and I wanted more of her. Then there's Mason's cousin Colby who gave me the impression that his story had a lot more going on then we got to see. I'm not sure if there's another coming story in this series but I'd love to see it focus on them.

All in all, it was a fun read and I gave it 3.5 stars!

It releases next month so make sure you add it to your TBR!
