DOUBLE SPOTLIGHT REVIEW... Double the Boys of Baseball...

Hey Hey All...
Today I'm featuring not one but two books of the THE BOYS OF SUMMER series by author Katie Rose. I read both books back to back without reading the preceding books in the series and in my opinion they stand on their own perfectly fine. While the characters from the previous books make appearances, I never felt lost and the dots seemed to connect seamlessly.
So without further ado lets get into it...

*Please note I received both books via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review*

The Boys of Summer are back! In Katie Rose’s sweet, sparkling novel, the newest New Jersey Sonic falls for the woman who’s trying desperately to save his career.

Physical therapist Jessica Hart has learned her lesson: Never date professional athletes. She’s been down that road, and barely recovered after the relationship crashed and burned. Then Jessica meets Gavin King. An All-Star slugger with chiseled good looks, Gavin was traded to the Sonics because he hurt his knee sliding into second, and now his future is in her hands. Gavin’s no bad boy—but he’s tempting enough to make Jessica think twice about all her rules.

Gavin is trying to find a comfortable routine. If he wants his old life back, he must take it easy, stay out of the limelight, and keep his distance from gorgeous redheaded physical therapists. The thing is, Gavin isn’t the kind of guy to sit on his ass and let other people pull his weight. And when he sees something he wants, he can’t help but fight for it, even if it means risking everything, even if it only lasts a single moment: like one kiss from Jessica.

I really enjoyed this story. Like I said I found that it stood solid as a standalone read while also igniting a desire to go back and read the previous books just to get to know the secondary characters better because they all seemed really charismatic and fun.

If I had to pick a favorite thing about this book it'd be Gavin... easily.

I loved him from start to finish. He brought a true sense of maturity and self awareness about his situation that marked it as a true contemporary read. He was Alpha... without the personality issues that other Alpha males seem to have throughout the genre which was a thousand percent refreshing.

For the most part this was a just an enjoyable fun kind of read. There are no seriously heavy emotional things to shift through and there were some just plain make you smile moments. HOWEVER, the only thing that wavered for me is that as much as Jessica has a lot of the things I adore in my female leads, there was a big turnoff with her. Her reluctance to get involved with Gavin was understandable in the beginning but then it seemed to morph into an unjust prejudice that kinda drove me bonkers. Gavin does a terrific job at proving himself and yet she has a hard time in just giving the guy a break. He never does anything to warrant the wavering in her feelings and because of that I found myself defensive of his character.
In line with this,  I found some of the drama that came their way a bit unnecessary.
But it was tempered with a quick resolve so overall I'd give this book a 3.5-4 Star Rating.

Perfect for readers of Joanna Blake and Sawyer Bennett, hailed as “charming, sexy, and smart” by Lauren Layne, the Boys of Summer series from award-winning author Katie Rose heats up as a homegrown baseball star returns to snag the one that got away.

When veteran catcher Connor Jackson gets traded to the New Jersey Sonics, he welcomes the opportunity to possibly cap his career with a World Series ring in his home state. But there’s another reason Connor is glad things have come full circle. In pursuit of hardball glory, he left behind his college sweetheart, the one girl he could never forget. Seeing her again stirs up long-lost desires . . . and this time, he’s determined not to strike out.

A divorced mother of four, Tracy Coleman no longer aspires to gossip-mag glam—but she’ll make an exception for a date with Connor. Their chemistry is hotter than ever, and being alone with him is more seductive than she anticipated. Who could blame her for leaving out a little detail like the kids? Now all she has to do is come clean and convince the man of her dreams that they—Connor, Tracy, and her children—have a future together.

If you are in the mood for a sweet guys with kids story... this one will satisfy your craving.
If you are feeling like you could go for a great second chance love story... yep. This one.

Connor wants to go out on top. Traded to the Sonics he's looking for a chance to get a World Series win in before he retires. But more than that he's looking to get back his first love and the girl he hasn't forgotten about- the recently single Tracy.
Connor knows she's divorced but he doesn't know about the four kids who call her mom.

If you were guessing that I loved Connor, *ding ding* you'd be right about that. Connor is older than the other guys in the series and it shows. As soon as the story opens we know where his focus is and it never wavers.
Tracy has a lot on her plate as a single mother. I could understand her apprehension (to a degree).  Her children are adjusting to a divorce and she doesn't want them to get attached to more disappointment. But there were so many little issues that left me a teensy bit frustrated with the way she handled her relationship with Connor.
So yeah like the previous book the main issue I had with the story laid with the female lead... in this case Tracy. I really wanted her to find her backbone and death grip it. I wanted to see her exhibit that strength and determination in defending her right to be happy and to be with whoever made her happy - okay honestly I wanted her to tell the ex-husband to screw himself and then I wanted her to fall into Connor's arms and let him love her and her kids!

Still it was sweet and fun, with quickly resolution and of course closure with a lovely happily ever after.

I'm giving this one a 3.5 Star rating!
